Nose to Mouth Lines (Nasolabial Folds)

Nose to Mouth Lines (Nasolabial Folds)

Lines that run from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth are also known as Nasolabial folds.

This condition is a natural part of the ageing process and can affect anyone, albeit in varying degrees of severity. The appearance of nose to mouth lines can often give a saddened and tired look that does not always represent a person’s true personality.

Collagen and elastin are substances that occur naturally within the skin. As we get older, internal processes can cause the levels of these products to decrease. The structure of the skin is therefore less supported and its youthfully smooth appearance becomes compromised. The structure of the cheekbones also changes as we age.

They can flatten out as natural fatty tissue starts to descend, which causes the skin to sag and become heavier around the lower part of the face. When these two factors combine with repeated facial movements, wrinkles are likely to develop and nose to mouth lines can start to appear.

For some people, nose to mouth lines are a natural feature, even before ageing plays its part. The effects that ageing imposes, as well as the factors that help to speed this process up, can often cause these lines to develop into more prominent creases. This can include: smoking, alcohol consumption, poor diet, sun exposure and lack of sleep / rest.

By attending a pre-treatment assessment at The Bloom Clinic, an informed action plan can be recommended to reduce the appearance of nose to mouth lines and restore a more youthful look.

Dr Nandi applies dermal fillers with precision and care to help ease the appearance of nose to mouth lines, adding volume to the skin and smoothing out the creases. Dermal fillers also contain a concentration of hyaluronic acid that restores essential moisture in the skin, which can help improve elasticity.
